A new study has found that stress and the need for control makes people more superstitious. Man cannot change the fate or destiny. The karmic influences cause dismays, distress and decide the fate. Though man can not escape destiny, he can prevent such impact or course of his sufferings by following certain astrological remedies. In order to put it simply, this means when it is raining one can not stop it, but one can certainly use an umbrella to protect himself. It is amazing how western and Chinese astrology, Arabic or Jewish systems of fortune telling, in addition to numerology, tarot reading and palmistry, are very popular and widely practiced across the world.

Most cultures consider some numbers to be lucky or unlucky. This is found to be particularly strong in Asian cultures where the obtaining of "lucky" telephone numbers, automobile license plates numbers, and household adresses are actively sought, sometimes at great monetary expense. An increasing number of Indian celebrities are swearing by good body charms and rituals. Famous astrologer and consultant Bejan Daruwalla says, “There are many corporate giants not only from India but also globally who ask for my consultation. I have met Dhirubhai Ambani twice officially at his residence. I had suggested to him how he should loosen his hands on the rein of power and take life more peacefully.”

Noted corporate historian and chairman, BP Ergo Group, Dr Gita Piramal points out: Have you ever seen the Ambani brothers before an important meeting ? Politicians file their nomination papers as per their horoscope, lucky numbers and after great care. Whether it was late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi or former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee or even former PM H D Deve Gowda, they all believed in one form of astrology or the other. There are top bureaucrats in the country who religiously follow astrology. In fact, some of the top bureaucrats are well known astrologers. One Cabinet Secretary who rose to become a Governor was consultant to several politicians.
